Face Ulcers and Blindness

In the 1930s, more than a dozen U.S. women were blinded and one died from infection after using Lash Lure, a permanent mascara and eyelash dye. Its ingredients included p-phenylenediamine, an untested chemical that caused blisters and ulcers on the face and eyelids. The chemical is still used in modern hair dyes.
