Pea-Sized Telescope

Implantable Miniature Telescope
VisionCare Ophthalmic Technolgies Inc.

Smaller than a pea, this telescope is designed to improve vision in patients with end-stage, age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in older Americans. It's implanted in one eye in an outpatient surgical procedure and it enlarges images to improve central vision. The first patient was implanted with the device in November.
