Putting a Price on Tradition

When Anna Lo Monaco and her family moved from Belgium to the U.S. a few years ago, her kids wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving. She found inexpensive ways to do things, such as decorating the table with pumpkins.

Keeping costs down is getting a little easier. The cost of a Thanksgiving meal rose an estimated 0.6 percent this year, down from a 13 percent jump in 2011, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. Turkey prices rose 3.1 percent while other food prices fell.

Bloomberg Rankings researched the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 12 in the Boston area, and asked celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, founder of Craft Restaurants, for tips to make your Thanksgiving a successful one.
